Music plays a vital role in the life of our church. There are a variety of opportunitites for members to be involved in the music ministry. The Sanctuary Choir sings at all weekly services and at special services throughout the year. The variety of music performed ranges from traditional church hymns and classical choral compositions to gospel, contemporary, and praise music. On any given Sunday, you are likely to hear a Bach Chorale, a Lutheran Hymn, and a rousing Gospel number in the course of the service. The Sanctuary Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00 in the Choir room and meets at 10:45 before the service on Sunday Mornings

In addition to the Sanctuary Choir, we also have opportunities for singers to perform as soloists throughout the year, either as weekly Psalm Cantors or singing special offerings during the service. A Children's Choir performs at special occasions and usually rehearses on Sunday morning during the Sunday School Hour. We also have a wonderful Praise Band led by our Pastor. They perform original compositions at services throughout the year.

The sanctuary of our church is becoming known to a growing number of musicians in the Houston area. In one of its publicity brochures, the Foundation for Modern Music called it, “the charming and acoustically excellent hall of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.”

The sanctuary houses a Knabe grand piano, which was discovered and lovingly restored by the noted composer and pianest Robert Avalon during his tenure as accompianist for the church. After his untimely death, the church purchased it from his estate and it continues to enrich our worship, as well as provide a fine quality instrument for the concert venue. A Kawai baby grand is available in the fellowship hall for small recitals and rehearsals.
